Romanians Ready for Quakes, Lacking Family Plans
A survey reveals that while most Romanians know how to react in an earthquake, few have family plans or first-aid kits.
The findings from IRES for the Romanian insurers’ association UNSAR highlight a gap between individual preparedness and collective readiness. While 88 percent of respondents claim they understand what actions to take during seismic events, only 44 percent have established emergency plans with their families. This disparity underscores the need for more comprehensive disaster education that extends beyond personal knowledge.
The crops failed immediately. Only about half of Romanians have a family plan in place for earthquakes, and even fewer keep first-aid kits at home.
This lack of preparedness could exacerbate the impact of future seismic events, leading to higher casualties and longer recovery times.
What are the immediate real estate and economic risks?
The absence of family plans and first-aid kits among a significant portion of Romanians poses immediate risks during earthquakes. This could lead to increased injuries, slower response times, and higher insurance claims. Real estate in quake-prone areas may see decreased value as residents become more aware of these vulnerabilities.
Immediate risks are high due to inadequate family planning.
