Researchers from RMIT University and EPA Victoria have found eight per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Melbourne's rainwater samples collected over the past year.

PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals that do not break down easily in the environment, posing risks to human health and ecosystems.

The detection highlights ongoing contamination issues and underscores the need for stricter regulations on industrial emissions and waste management.
