Indonesia's critically endangered Javan rhinos have survived the ongoing eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, which is located near their sole habitat in Ujung Kulon National Park.

Despite the volcanic activity, conservation authorities report that the rhinos are safe. However, this single-habitat scenario leaves the species highly vulnerable to any future environmental disruptions or natural disasters.

The Javan rhino population faces significant threats due to its limited range and habitat loss, making it one of the most endangered large mammals in the world.
