Japan Plans to Replace Pollen-Producing Trees to Combat Hay Fever Epidemic

Japan is facing a severe hay fever crisis, with over 40% of its population suffering from pollen allergies. The issue stems from two tree species widely planted after World War II.

These trees have caused widespread kafunsho, or seasonal allergic rhinitis, affecting millions and nearly doubling the rate compared to the U.S.

The government plans to replace these pollen-producing trees with hypoallergenic varieties to mitigate the health impacts on its citizens.
